Together with a team of geocryologist scientists, I collected field materials for my project. Field School of Zapolyarny State University, Norilsk.
Beneath our feet lies the layered breath of soil, compressed by time. What is unseen can be heard. Sound here becomes a tool for reading the icy archives.
In this video sound-art project, sound becomes an instrument for engaging with the invisible: acoustic vibrations recorded at permafrost research sites are transformed into a sound sculpture that reveals the inner life of the earth. One can hear the difference between layers of seasonal thaw and deep permafrost, between strata mixed with ice and zones of eternal frost.
The video, which visualizes acoustic waves, offers a way to touch geophysics through bodily perception. It embodies the principle of nature’s continuous transformation by capturing and preserving the voice of the permafrost.
